Johannes Theodorus Overbeek

Johannes “Joe” Overbeek, of Lethbridge passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on April 27, 2017 at the age of 84 years.

Joe, known as Joop by his Dutch family, was born in Woerden in the Netherlands and came to Canada in 1951 at the age of 19.

He worked for southern Alberta farmers until 1960 when he began a long career with the Alberta Wheat Pool.

Joe married Helen Kobuta (Tekla Sousa) August 31, 1974. Helen passed away in 2005.

Joe is survived by two step-sons, John and Allan Kobuta. He is also survived by his brother Ties, as well as nieces and nephews in the Netherlands.

He was predeceased by his parents Gerardus and Johanna Overbeek, brother Pank, sister Ann and nephew Gert.

Joe enjoyed numerous travels to Europe and the United States, most often accompanied by friend, Mike Oevering. He also enjoyed pike fishing and reading Louis Lamour westerns.

Services will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, 327-10 St S, Tuesday, May 23rd with Visitation from 10-11 a.m. and a Prayers Service at 11 a.m., Deacon Cliff Bogdan officiating. Cremation will follow, with interment at a later date.
