Donald Ernest Derbyshire

Today, with broken hearts, we share the news of the passing of our beloved, Donald Ernest Derbyshire. It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of such an extraordinary individual who touched the lives of countless people.

Donald Ernest Derbyshire was born in Kimberly, BC on February 14, 1946, the 4th son to Ernest and Nancy Derbyshire and passed away peacefully February 28, 2024, in Coaldale, AB following complications to being diagnosed with Lewy’s Body Disease five years ago.

Don was predeceased by parents Ernest and Nancy Derbyshire; his first wife, Barbara Derbyshire; his four brothers, Reg, Larry, Clive, and Chris.

Besides his loving wife Diane, Don is survived by children Merl, Ronnie, and Clive; stepchildren Brad, Brian, and Jeff; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

For decades, he selflessly served our community, leaving an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of crossing his path. Whether it was painting the campground tables, volunteering with a search and rescue team, roofing the community church or helping someone get rid of a bobcat in their chicken coop. He was always there to lend a hand.

Don was a family man above all else. A devoted husband. A dedicated dad of three children and stepdad to another three. He was a grandfather of eight and a great grandfather of nine. He touched countless lives with his example of selflessness and family values. His legacy shines brightly in the love and dedication he showed toward his family. His commitment to his role as a loving husband and dad serves as inspiration.

As we reflect on his legacy, his kindness, wisdom, and genuine care touched everyone around him that will be forever cherished.

He gave those around him a lifetime of love and memories.

Cremation has taken place.

Don’s wishes were as his resting spot to be buried “on a mountain” and chose Gray Creek Cemetery and wanted “sandwiches” in the Gray Creek Hall. We will honor his wishes. Arrangements have not been completed, but we are looking at sometime in June or July to have his “Celebration of Life.” Updates to follow.
