OLIVIER, ROGER SYLVAIN passed away on January 17, 2018 at the Lethbridge Hospital at the age of 59.
Born to Cecile and Paul Olivier in Trois -Rivieres, on Feb 12, 1958, Roger spent his child hood years in St. Paul, Quebec amongst his nine siblings.
Roger came west from Quebec in 1978 right after high school, making his first home in Edmonton, Alberta. He spent the next forty years working at numerous ranches, feedlots, and farms throughout Western Canada. Since 2000, Roger made his home in Coaldale, Alberta where he met his wife of 11 years, Vickie. The pair moved to Claresholm this past year.
His passion was horses and he devoted himself to being a great horseman and ferrier. Roger loved all things outdoors and soon his second passion was born building his top notch fly fishing skills. He spent his holidays searching for new lakes and rivers in Alberta and BC chasing the "big one". At age 50, Roger found a new challenge learning how to downhill ski. When the lakes and rivers were covered with ice, Roger found himself flying down the ski hills in the mountains in his free time.
Roger is survived by his wife Vickie Keam, his father Paul Olivier, and his nine siblings Jean, Gaetan, Rene (his twin), Martin, Danielle, Suzanne, Denise, Marie, and Serge and their families, as well as his step-daughter Nicole Thom from a previous relationship and her two children Callum and Thomas. Roger is predeceased by his loving mother Cecile Olivier.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, January 24, at 1pm at Hays Civic Centre, in Hays, Alberta. Dessert, coffee and tea will be provided.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to STARS,1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, Alberta,T2E 8M7.
