SHIRLEY FAY FARR passed away on the 14th of July at the age of 83 years. Born in London, she trained as a nurse in Bromley and moved to Hamilton in 1958. After adding midwifery to her skills she practiced in Burlington and Prince Rupert. She then joined the Canadian Army and was posted to Churchill. While working on the maternity ward, she met a medical student named Jim who was so taken with her that he proposed marriage. Although she outranked him, she agreed. Thus began 55 years of mutual support and love.
After three years of service in Germany they returned to Kingston before settling in Coaldale in 1968.Over the years they enjoyed traveling Canada from coast to coast, Europe and the UK. Shirley’s life was devoted to kindness, care and support for others. She was a committed volunteer with great respect for her community. She will be profoundly missed by Jim, her daughter Tanya and sons Keith and Laird (Leila) and his children Teagan and Tavis.
Shirley requested that there be no funeral. A family memorial will be held at a later date. She wished sincere thanks to Doctors Mueller, Janzen and Ireland as well as to all of the kind, thoughtful and caring staff at the St. Michael’s Palliative care unit.
