Alexander "Sandy" Fraser Obituary

My Sandy sailed away peacefully, May 19, the turbulent waters no more.  We are both grateful for the 9.5 years we have had with him beating the odds of life expectancy at age 74 after his stroke.  His will and his determination to maintain his independence - incomparable.  His undying humour kept us afloat during wave after wave.

His children…Valerie Fraser, Gerald (Dawn) Fraser, Carol (Tony) Houle, Deanna (Kieran) Gonnelly, Greg Fraser (who went before him) – you are the best of him.  Good looking, smart, hardworking, creative, and caring.  His sense of humour in your genes.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren…you carry on his legacy, may the spirit of a warrior reside in your hearts.

Sandy’s accomplishments in life were incomparable in the workforce.  From career shifts in mining, relocating from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, British Columbia.  Every new challenge he faced like a warrior.

Sandy’s personal life was never dull: boating in summer, motorcycling, canoeing, hiking, and mountain biking.  Snowmobiling in Ontario winters and cross-county skiing. His yearning to see more of the country led to Sandy’s and my retirement decision to become full time RVers, Winter Texans.

Sandy’s directives regarding his final peace are cremation and his ashes to be scattered at South Padre Island, Gulf of Mexico, at a later date to be determined.

To family and friends, too numerous to mention all individually, you were the “lighthouses” that guided us through the waters, always bringing our ship home safely to anchor in love.

Dr. Steven Low and staff, Sandy’s physician since November 2010.  Thank you for your care, your respect for him is immeasurable.  EMT’s and medical staff at Chinook Regional Hospital, your care and concern, exceptional.

May you have calm water from here to eternity my “salty ole pirate”.  Until you find me and reach your hand into the water for me again, one day.  Thank you for being my ‘anchor’.  I love you.

Love, your wife of 45 years.
