Harm (Harry) Oldenburger Obituary

Harm (Harry) Oldenburger 1948-2024

Harm passed away June 23, 2024 at the Chinook Regional Hospital after a long battle against many ailments & M.S.

Harm is predeceased by his mother Fenje, father Jacob, brothers: Sjord (Stewart), Reindeer Jacob (Ray), Lambert (Bert), his step son Ross, brothers-in-law Gert (Geritt), and Harry. Harm is survived by his wife Joan Ellen, son Todd ( wife Amanda), daughter Jessica (fiancé Dillon), step daughters: Christina, Pearl, and Pam, step son Scott, grandsons: Brent, Christian, Duncan and Deegan, great-granddaughter Nevaeh-rose (Rosie), and great-grandson Hayden. Harm is also survived by his three brothers: Oebele (Leo) (wife Dinie), Ycob (Jake) (Partner Gerti), Roelof (Ralph) (wife Susan), two sisters Jantje ( Jenny), and Aaltje (Alice), sisters-in-law in law Joni and Nikki,  as well as many neices and nephews.

Harm and his family came to Picture Butte in 1954 when he was only 6 years old, where he grew up to do many things, including working for the Picture Butte sugar beet factory. Harm loved to tinker with various vehicles, ride motorcycles, and go to car shows (even making appearances to various auctions). Harm owned a second hand store in both Picture Butte and Coaldale for a few years which he enjoyed, as it allowed him to meet many people who he would become good friends with throughout the years. In 1989 Harm met Joan. The two of them started dating and nine months later they were asked if Joan's granddaughter Jessica could come stay with them. Harm and Joan welcomed Jessica into their home where they raised her as their own. Shortly after her arrival Joan and Harm would get married in the living room of their Iron Springs home (with Harry in his stocking feet!). Over the years Harm has made many friends from all groups, some with the same sarcastic humor, others with the all knowing car buzz only to name a few, but all very near and dear to his heart. Harm's sense of humor along with his urge to help those who needed it will make him hard to forget. The last few years Harm found it harder to do much of what he used to enjoy but that did not stop him from enjoying some of the simpler things, like puttering around his shop, or cruising around the town on his scooter (as the self appointed town mayor), to go check on his neighbors and get the newest gossip of the happenings in Iron Springs.

Harm will be immensely missed by all who have come to know him and by those of us who are so lucky to call him family. His strength, determination, along with his love and devotion will never be forgotten.

Rest easy Harm. Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend.

And remember,

EVER FORWARD NEVER BACK
