He was born in 1938 in Uithuizermeeden, the Netherlands. Herman took over the family farming operation and it is there where he grew to love and know the business of farming. He then turned to insurance and finance before emigrating in 1978 to his new home of Lethbridge. He built up a thriving insurance practice with SunLife from which he retired. He also focused on traveling the world with Lidy to see and experience life and sights the 5 continents have to offer.
Herman was actively involved with the Dutch-Canadian Club, German-Canadian Club, and the Lethbridge Lions Club. Over the last 10 years he threw himself with boundless energy and passion on his Unimog and Lanz tractors restoration projects and got actively involved with the Prairie Tractor & Engine Museum.
He is survived by his beloved wife Lidy, son Ralf (Erin) Siemens along with grandkids Frances and Freddie, daughter Metta (Peter) Siemens along with grandkids Does and Nijs, Bas and Josephine, and sister Lia Siemens and kids.
In keeping with Herman's wishes, a private cremation has been held. Herman's life will be celebrated on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Prairie Tractor & Engine Museum in Picture Butte (coyoteflats.org) from 11AM - 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Herman's honor to the Prairie Tractor & Engine Museum or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
