Juliette Bernadette (née Cornet) Whitson

Juliette Bernadette Whitson (née Cornet) passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born on March 19, 1943, in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, spending her childhood in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan, the only daughter among five children born to René and Annette Cornet.

In July 1962, Juliette earned her nursing aide certificate in Saskatoon and went on to marry Gail Stanley Whitson in 1964. Together, they had two sons, Shane and Darren. That marriage, as well as another, later ended, but Juliette’s devotion to her loving relationship with her sons always prevailed.

Juliette was predeceased by her brothers Leo Cornet and Daniel Cornet and is survived by her brothers Robert Cornet (Tony) and Maurice Cornet (Pearl).

She was a proud and loving mother to Shane Whitson (Chantal) and Darren Whitson (Laura-Lee). She found great joy in her role as grandmother to Shane Whitson (Courtney), Tyra Whitson (Zena), Brady Whitson (Ben), and Rylee Whitson (Riese), and was a cherished great-grandmother to Theodore, Freya, Griffin, and Brooke.

Juliette had a lifelong love of music and found joy in playing the piano and singing. Loving the outdoors, she took great pride in her backyard and cherished nothing more than time spent with family and friends. She appreciated a good joke and fully embraced all of life’s celebrations - often with a cocktail in hand she was often the last one awake at any gathering. Fiercely independent and unapologetically herself, she didn’t take nonsense from anyone and lived by her own rules - one of her favorite dismissive sayings being “I don’t give a red rat’s ass”. Sadly, she passed with all of them.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Good Samaritan Park Meadows Village, Cottage 7, in Lethbridge, Alberta, for their care, kindness, and support.

Juliette’s kindness, strength, and enduring spirit will live on through the generations of her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A private celebration of life for family and friends will be held in June, 2026.
