Rika Burgwal

Rika Burgwal of Lethbridge, beloved wife of John Burgwal passed away after a lengthy illness at Good Samaritans Park Meadows Village on March 8, 2015 at the age of 81 years.

Mom was a special lady whose caring and generous nature and smile touched many lives. She will be greatly missed, but lives on in our hearts and memories.

Besides her loving husband John, Rika is survived by her daughter Tracy Cockerill, three sons Jay (Kylie) Burgwal, Tom (Sheryne) Burgwal, Dan (Kelli) Burgwal, grandchildren Cody (Mercedes), Brittany (Jason), Cheyenne, Shelbi, Chase, Blaize, Halle, Ryder, great grandchildren Madison, Maxtin, five sisters Truus (Gerry) Karperien, Tina Simmons, Diane (Stan) Lewicki, Ria (Dennis) Brady, Nancy (Darryl) Asplund, one brother Peter van den Hengel as well as sister-in-laws Sharon van den Hengel, Jean van den Hengel and Annie (Grad) van Gaal.

Rika was predeceased by her parents Hendrika and Johannes van den Hengel, brothers Dave, Ted and John van den Hengel and sister Tony Husch. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday March 28, 2015 at Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre, 1904 13 Ave N. Lethbridge.

Thank-you to the staff at Good Samaritans Park Meadows. A special thank-you to the LPNs and the ladies of Cottage 7 for the care and love you've shown mom, as well as our dad, over the past 20 months. It was our second home and we will forever be grateful for all you've done.
