Rob DeJong Obituary

We are celebrating the life of Robert John Gary DeJong, who was born in Edmonton, Alberta on April 7 , 1962.

Rob lived in many places throughout his life, but always considered Medicine Hat (Where all his children were born), his hometown. He resided in Lethbridge, Alberta at the time of his passing, on October 15th, 2025.

Rob worked for many years as a highly skilled labourer, rod buster and concrete worker. He also worked in the pipeline and oilfield industries, which he loved.

With his youngest son, Tristan, Rob shared a love of all things motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidsons.

Rob was known to be young at heart, with an incredible sense of humour. He displayed patience with children and was tactful when sharing life lessons with people of all ages. His candid honesty, advanced use of metaphor and a true love of nature drew people to him throughout his life.

Rob was a creative soul with a keen eye for finding the beauty in our world and rebelling against the ugliness of it. His sharp attention to detail guided his endeavours of working with his hands, be it through woodworking, ironworking, leather upcycling or embroidering. Rob loved watching movies that made you think or laugh, always quick with a joke or an easy smile.

You'd always find him with a Sudoku close by, or writing funny blurbs in his Archie comics.

Rob was predeceased by his mother, Lois, and stepbrother, Calvin.

Rob is survived by his father Gordon Welch, his beloved partner of 33 years Donna, his children Quinn (Randi), Apryl (Tristan), step-son Marc, Samantha, and Tristan (Kasey), 7 grandchildren and honorary grandson Kane, who affectionately called him "Grandpa Robbie."

He is also survived by his Sister Sherry (Gord), Brother Tony, Sister Lesa and Sister Joey (Joel), as well as his numerous nieces and nephews.

Rob enriched our lives while he was here, and we feel overwhelming sadness now that he is gone.

Ride free Rob! We shall meet again!!

 Burn rubber, not your soul!
