Silas Benjamin Moses Ginn

Born in Toronto and lived in Vancouver, Grande Prairie, Ft. McMurray, Calgary and Lethbridge.

It is with the deepest of sorrow that we share the passing of Silas, beloved son of Elizabeth M. Ginn and brother to Muffy McKay and uncle to nephews Auren McKay and Benjamin McKay. Silas also leaves his sister Amanda Perillo and her family in Seattle, WA, and many relatives in Ontario. He also leaves his step-daughter Ever Mee in B.C. 

His death has left us all in shock and happened very quickly due to complications from illness.  Silas was looking forward to the future and talked about travelling with his Mom this month back to Fogo Island, Nfld and Labrador.

Always a friend to those in need, including his beloved dog Charlie and family dogs over the years; his beloved cat Kermode and others in the rescue of the Last Chance Cat Ranch, Silas was always there to help animals in need. From a very young age, he rescued reptiles, fish, rabbits and spiders. A passionate Vegan for the majority of his life, he saw no purpose in treating all creatures, including flies, without respect for their lives.  He loved gardening and caring for his many houseplants.  Animal companions aside, he was a friend to many. Silas was a compassionate, giving and caring guy.

He was also passionate about motorcycles and was working on rebuilding some. He belonged to a Motorcycle Forum that had members all over the world. Condolences are coming in from South Africa, Great Britain, Europe and all-over North America. He had an incredible gift for writing and had been encouraged to write and publish by many, including former teachers in high school and college.

Silas suffered from a debilitating back injury for the past 20 years and yet was always there to help those in need. He was grateful for what he had and supported his mother in her endeavors as an artist and writer. A gifted mind, a stable and passionate love for the earth, Silas distained the acquisition of material wealth in absence of concern for the vulnerable. He leaves a next to zero carbon footprint as he was a fanatic recycler, but he does leave a large footprint on the hearts of many.

Silas did not want a funeral per se. He opted for a green ending with his ashes to become the strength for the growth of a tree. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date for family and friends.
