It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) Gerald Peta on January 31, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by his family.
Bill was born on August 29, 1944, in Lethbridge, Alberta, and spent much of his childhood on a farm in Saskatchewan alongside his two sisters. He graduated from Lethbridge Junior College and went on to build a successful career in finance, working with organizations such as Scotiabank and International Harvester.
Along the way, Bill met and married his beloved wife, Judy. Together, Bill and Judy devoted 25 years to opening and operating a foster home, a commitment that reflected their deep compassion and generosity toward others.
Bill will be fondly remembered for his warm personality, kindness, and sharp sense of humor. From an early age, he developed a passion for firearms, which led him to become an active member of the Lethbridge Fort Whoop Up Black Powder Club. He was also deeply knowledgeable about Western history and could speak for hours on the subject. One of his favorite places to visit was Custer’s Last Stand in Montana.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Judy Peta; his parents William and Gunda Peta; and his sisters Caroline Granlin and Donna Syverson.
He is lovingly remembered by his three sons: Shane Peta, Tateum (Denise) Peta, and Conrad Peta; his grandchildren: Mackenzie Fleming-Peta, Bayleigh Fleming, and Logan Peta; as well as his great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Lethbridge, AB. on February 20, 2026 at 1:00 pm, with a Reception to follow at St. Basil's Catholic Church, Lethbridge, AB.
